Why We Emphasize Wellness Care

Your pet’s health is always changing, and they age much more quickly than we do. It’s important to keep an eye on their health, so any developing problems can be caught early and treated quickly and effectively. At Chester County Cat Hospital, we recommend annual visits for young pets and semi-annual visits for cats over 7 years old to ensure that they’re healthy and aging well.

Help your pet maintain their optimal health and well-being throughout every life-stage. Schedule a wellness visit today.

Physical Examination

At every pet wellness care visit, we’ll perform a thorough physical exam checking for any abnormalities such as lumps or bumps, hair loss, stiff or painful joints, irregular heartbeats, abnormal lung sounds, etc. A complete exam will include:

  • Eyes, ears, and nose

  • Skin and coat condition

  • Heart and lungs

  • Oral health

  • Legs, hips, joints, and spine

  • Abdomen

  • Weight and body condition score*

*If your pet is overweight, we offer nutritional consultations to develop a healthy weight-loss plan.

Age-Appropriate Lab Work

Despite our thoroughness, a physical exam alone is not enough. In addition, we’ll also perform age-appropriate blood work and lab testing which may include:

  • Complete blood count

  • Blood chemistry panels (useful for checking the health of individual organs)

  • FELV/FIV testing

  • Fecal exam (for intestinal parasites)

  • Urinalysis (to test kidney health)
